Seven months ago when I walked to Body3 Fitness Center I had no idea my life was about to take such a drastic change like it has.
All  I remember is getting an email for free consultation and calling to set up an appointment with Tom because  it was absolutely free (who hates free stuff). Little did I know that I was about to sign up and embark on this amazing Journey which has brought so much happiness to my life.
Throughout this journey if there’s one thing I haven’t learned is that we all have the will power and the strength to do anything we set our minds to.  Sometimes when the going gets tougher and the trainers pushes harder even when your muscles are aching , don’t find an excuse as to why you can’t do it, find a reason as to why you should do it and just push yourself a little harder because deep down you have the strength to do it. If you promise yourself that every workout you’ll give it your all and do one extra exercise be it a pushup/plank/sit-up/mountain climbers/lap etc you’ll be on your way to a healthy life.

Peter, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you want to lose weight?

Errr…7?

I’ve found that people need to answer 8 or higher to have the motivation required.

This was my first time inside a gym since High School. I had tried unsuccessfully before to lose weight and I needed outside help, and now the gym owner was trying to put me off? There was something about Tom’s response to my tentative “7” that told me that this was the place to be. That Body3fit cared more about my health than my membership fee. His response also kicked in my stubborn streak and made me determined to prove him wrong, and now here I am, 7 months later and over 40lbs lighter.
Today Tom asked “What have you learned?” I’m learning that although 40lbs is easier to carry on my waist than on a barbell, it’s better to be able to leave the weight on the rack than carry it under my belt all day. I’m learning that there is good pain and bad pain. The ache of a strenuous workout is preferable to the pains of an unfit body. I’m learning that just because my body says “I’m hungry” doesn’t mean that it is. I’m learning that my brain distorts what it sees in the mirror. My brain thinks I look like Chris Farley auditioning for the Chippendales when I take Sh’Bam, but it doesn’t matter because I’m enjoying myself and burning calories. I’m learning it is better to avoid the doughnut today than try and exercise it away tomorrow. I’m learning that I only fail at being healthy if I quit trying.

No one could have described to me how walking through the doors of Body3 Fitness was going to positively change my life in so many ways! I simply wanted to learn how to use weights and machines properly…or so I thought. Then I realized I needed to strengthen my core to continue my hobby of dance. While I have been physically active most of my life, it seemed like my body really never changed until now. In seven quick months, I have lost 2 dress sizes, 7% body fat, and 10 lbs and have changed the shape of my body. Look at these arms! I have never been in better physical and mental shape in my entire life. When you feel good about yourself, you can accomplish anything!

I have been a member of the Body3, under the current and previous owners, for about five years. There are lots of reasons I have made the gym a part of my fitness routine and my life in general. It attracts a friendly and diverse crowd; everyone seems to feel comfortable, and I think everyone can find a program that suits his or her particular needs. People talk to each other, and share stories about themselves and their fitness goals.

My favorite training tool, though, is the challenges that the gym offers from time to time. I entered the last two challenges, and, much to my surprise, I won them both! Since October, I have unloaded a little over twenty-eight pounds. I guess because outside the gym I can be quite lazy and undisciplined, I love the fact that the challenges give you all the tools you need to set and meet achievable goals for yourself—including, shopping lists, recipes, portion sizes, and, of course, lots of personal motivation from Tom and the Body 3 staff (including Body bucks for the winner to spend on gym sessions and services).

Despite my successes, I still struggle with weight fluctuations and have to focus every day on keeping to my training schedule and maintaining good eating habits. I feel fortunate that the Body3 team and resources are there to help keep me on track and give me plenty of friendly support.

Every aspect of my life has improved.  I have now lost approximately 50 pounds and my body fat percentage has dropped from over 35% to approximately 16%.  When I started, I couldn’t do a single unassisted chin-up.  Last Friday, I was able to do 100 chin-ups in one workout.  In February, my average running pace was more than 11 minutes per mile and I could barely run 3 miles at a time.  My pace is now down to 7:30 minutes per mile and I’m preparing for a half marathon in Dallas in December.  I have immeasurably more energy and psychologically, I’m in a completely different place.  I feel empowered.
