Have you ever really thought about that statement? How about increasing your energy, confidence, or even your ability to get off the floor?

Many who have stayed active lifting weights probably can attest to “the strongest live the longest.” They know all the benefits of staying active as we age.

Those that are starting out or have been inconsistent have so many benefits to look forward to with strength training. Imagine climbing a flight of stairs without stopping to catch your breath, or carrying a 40-pound bag of dog food to your car without hesitation.

Simple everyday moves can be significantly improved at any age with the proper strength and conditioning program. I have witnessed several over 80 year-olds that continue to improve their strength and well-being, which translates to improved balance, more endurance, and increased range of motion

Senior citizens can benefit from fewer trips to the doctor with decreased muscle loss and increased bone and tendon strength. Sounds like a win-win, right?

Make strength training a part of your life like brushing your teeth or taking a shower.

How do you do that? Great question . . .

Set a specific time each day or at least 3 times a week that you can devote towards strength and conditioning.

Having the right program is just as important as making the time. Don’t know what to do?  Contact Houston’s Best Personal Training Gym to get one set up.

A general program to get you started might be working the same muscle groups on Monday and Thursday and a different set of muscles on Tuesday and Friday. Rest on Wednesday or try some cardio. Give yourself some time to recoup on the weekend or throw another cardio workout in there. Don’t forget to stretch after your workouts!

Keep yourself motivated by rewarding your success, changing up your lifting order, and consistently setting both short-term and long-term goals. Achieving goals is always motivating!

Any experienced weight lifter knows how great they feel after a workout. Those who are just getting started are in for a healthy experience and headed towards the fountain of youth!
