  • Personal Trainer or Nutrition certification is great but not necessary

So let me tell you about me, my company and the General Manager position.

My name is Tom Jackobs and I run a fitness and nutrition coaching company called Body3 Personal Fitness in the Heights area of Houston, Texas.

My business is dedicated to helping women and men achieve their health and fitness goals through customized nutrition and fitness programs.

... and business is great!

I'm looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and energetic person to be my next AMAZING General Manager.

My studio is located on West TC Jester Blvd, just North of 34th Street in the Heights/Oak Forest Neighborhood of Houston.

We currently offer one-on-one customized nutrition and fitness programs, group coaching classes, and nutrition counseling, which educate, motivate, and support men, women, and teens to improve their health and fitness.

All clients begin with an initial 12-week coaching package, which includes nutrition counseling, exercise program design, nutritional supplements, monthly fitness assessments, and weekly training sessions here at our fitness center.

I am very picky about who will work with our family... yes it is like a family here. And to some extent I can be very demanding of my team members. I do this because I want everyone to grow and I want our clients to have the very best experience here. I've grown this company from nothing to where it is today with the help of a great team, so yes, I'm a bit protective of who we bring on board.

The interview process won't be a one interview and you're hired type of process. It may be lengthy, you will be asked to take some tests, you will interact with several members of the team, and you will asked to perform tasks to prove the skills which you say you have. Oh, and I will call your references AND do a background check. Basically I'm weeding out anyone who is lazy and doesn't want to do the work necessary to get a great job. I hope you're not one of those people.

This also isn't a typical 9-5, 40 hour a week job, with a break in the morning and a break in the afternoon, and 30 minutes for lunch. This is a small business and we operate from 5:30am to 8pm, Monday - Friday and Saturdays from 8 - 12. I'm not saying you will be asked to work ALL of those hours, but if you're leading a team, you should probably know what they do and offer feedback and our team mostly works early morning and evening...

I also like to have fun at work and believe in giving back to the community which give us so much. So we have fun client outings and do fund raiser for different charities, so you'll be expected to organize and participate in those activities. I also put a LOT of value on personal development and want someone who is willing to invest in themselves to grow as a person, that means reading books, going to conferences, and networking with other business people.

Bottom line: you’ll get all the nitty gritty education on how to run this business.. I'm looking for the right person who truly cares about helping others and is willing to do the work necessary to grow this business. I am a big believer in sharing in the success of the company, so after your 6 month probationary period you will be eligible for a very generous profit sharing plan, 401K Savings Plan with Matching Contribution, and Health Care Reimbursement.

My studio offers a professional casual, fun environment, nice training equipment, and the opportunity to learn the inner-workings of a successful personal training studio. I'm not too concerned if you have experience running a fitness training facility ... but you shouldn't be a stranger to exercise either.

Oh yeah, I’m also very fair, respectful, and appreciative. I like having fun and making money providing highly valuable fitness services and products. You will be compensated fairly, treated fairly, and I will certainly look for ways to pay you more for your efforts if they warrant it. I want someone who enjoys working with people and making a difference in the lives of others…because that’s what we do in my studio.

Required Skills

These are the skills you must already have in order to qualify for this position:

  • Leadership Skills.  You must be effective as a leader and be able to lead a team of diverse individuals toward the common goals of the company
  • Outstanding communication skills. You must be able to communicate clearly verbally, through email and in writing.  Communication is extremely important to me and as a leader you should be exceptional at communicating with others.
  • People skills and personality. You must LOVE working with people! As mentioned above you must be very comfortable working with people. This is an exciting studio and you must be able to show your clients energy and excitement while working with them.
  • Health and fitness education. You do not need personal training experience, but you should have a working knowledge of health and fitness.

Bonus Skills

If you have these additional skills, your resume will go right to the top of the stack (but if you don’t have these skills, you should still apply because they are not mandatory).
